Track 1 – Healthcare Transformations

Virtual Cancer Center – Envisioning Optimization of Cancer Car through Healthy Information Exchange

The panel discussed the viability, creation and benefits of the Virtual Cancer Center. The business driver is to create open communication between all specialists and primary care physicians. This serves a variety of needs for each participant:

Patients receive continuous care. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it’s disconcerting to be shuffled off to a specialist that you’ve never seen before. They don’t know you or your history, but also if you return to your normal physician, they don’t know what has happened to you at the specialist. It’s both practically and emotionally helpful to patients to know a framework of medical professionals is working together to help them.

Clinician confidence is raised in a reliable system. It is a poor business model to send patients off to oncologists only to lose them completely. CentraState is a solution that looks for the optimal way to send information between physicians, and in doing their research they found a tremendous variation in method of practice from different types and sizes.
